Medium Felt Details and Specifications
Available in natural wool blends of “Off White” and “Blue-Grey” along with Black Dyed their British Standard designation are classed as follows:
A75/5W for White felt – A75/5G for Grey felt – A75/5D for Black dyed.
General Characteristics
- Firmer than a soft felt to the touch with a smoother surface.
- Medium degree of compressibility.
- Can drape well.
- High liquid absorption capacity
- Excellent general all round performer.
- Operational within a temperature range of -20 to +100 Celsius
- Self-extinguishing with a flashpoint in excess of 650 Celsius
Fabricating methods
Medium felt can be die-cut, slit to custom widths, laminated with adhesives, impregnated with lubricating waxes, and easily cut with knives and shears into simple shapes. A degree of shaping and grinding can also be achieved.
Typical Applications
- Dust Seals.
- Oil & Grease retainers.
- Fluid storage and delivery.
- Anti-squeak strips.
- Cushioning.
- Packaging.
- Sound absorbing pads and strips.
- Protection and insulation.
- Table Covering for Glass cutting.
- Filtration of air and fluids.
- Excellent bearing grade.
- Good compression recovery.
- Steel strip brake pads.
- The preferred choice for 90% of applications.
Dimensions
Our medium felts are manufactured at 1830mm widths (72”) and are available in various roll lengths governed by the material thickness.
Additional information
Medium felts can be used in areas of light to medium friction (Example: roller bearing seals & wire enameling)
They exhibit less stretch than soft felts and have a denser core that gives them strength to resist breaking down in friction and low shear environments.
They are perfect for absorbing and transferring a variety of liquids from a reservoir to a substrate in a controlled manner without flooding.
Medium grade felt is stocked in the widest variety of thicknesses to cover many manufacturing and component requirements.
