Hard Felt

General Characteristics

1. Very hard smooth surface.
2. Very little compression.
3. No drape characteristics even at low thicknesses.
4. Poor liquid absorption.
5. Manufactured for very specific applications.
6. Operational within a temperature range of -20 to +100 Celsius
7. Self-extinguishing with a flashpoint in excess of 650 Celsius

Fabricating methods

Hard felt can be slit to custom widths.

This material lends itself to grinding and shaping, beveling, and countersinking to very high accuracy, producing complex 3D shapes.

1. Polishing and buffing of metals.
2. Machine mounting.
3. Braking pads.
4. Ink rollers and nibs.
5. Conveyor belt guides.
6. Tubes for covering rollers.
7. Steel strip tension pads.
8. Sealing rings for pneumatic carriers.

Dimensions

Our Hard felts are manufactured at in 1 metre square sheets in a limited thickness range from 3mm upwards.

Hard felts can be manufactured in excess of 100mm in thickness for specific applications.

Additional information

Hard felts are performance textiles and are designed to be used in demanding situations.

Their density means they can withstand high friction areas without degradation.

There no stretch or deformation in Hard felt and they are resilient to delamination of the core.

They are not suitable for areas requiring cushioning, oil and liquid transfer, sound reduction and because of their hardness they resist bending and forming around objects.

The majority of applications in this quality of felt is in the areas of polishing and lapping of metals and hard plastics.
