Extra Firm Felt Details and Specifications
The products are only available in a natural “off-white” colour and generally manufactured between 1520 and 1620mm widths on rolls. A97/3W
General Characteristics
- Firm/Hard to touch with a smooth surface.
- Very low compression when squeezed
- Poor drape characteristics and only at thin gauges.
- Will soak liquids of low viscosity but tends to be much slower on absorption than felts at lower densities.
- A high performance felt.
- Operational within a temperature range of -20 to +100 Celsius
- Self-extinguishing with a flashpoint more than 650 Celsius
Fabricating methods
Extra-Firm felt can be die-cut, slit to custom widths, laminated with adhesives, impregnated with lubricating waxes, and easily cut with knives and shears into simple shapes. Shaping and grinding of profiles can also be achieved with more accuracy than in medium grade and firm grade felts.
Typical Applications
- Dust Seals.
- Oil & Grease retainers.
- Fluid storage and delivery.
- Excellent bearing grade.
- Steel strip brake pads.
- Excellent bearing seal grade for friction applications.
- Sanding Pads
- Adhesive primer wicks
- Polishing Pads and Discs
Dimensions
Our Extra-Firm felts are manufactured at 1520 to 1620mm widths (60” and 64”) and are available in various roll lengths governed by the material thickness.
Additional information
Extra-Firm felts are high performance textiles and are designed to be used in demanding situations.
Their density means they can withstand high friction areas without degradation.
There is little to zero stretch in extra-firm felts and they are resilient to delamination of the core.
In a similar way to firm felts, they will operate well at absorbing and transferring liquids particularly onto constantly moving surfaces, but high viscosity oils and liquids will not absorb readily into this product and the solid content of the liquid will be filtered out.
The applications for this product are not as wide as in other softer materials and as such the available thickness choices are limited.
